NEW!! ‘PAINT YOUR DOG OR CAT WITH MOLLY & MAUD’ 

Saturday 7th OCTOBER 2023

Working together we will paint through a stage by stage process to create a Pet Portrait in oil paint – using the tonal, fat over lean method we use as professional artists ourselves.   Our main focus will be on giving life to the eyes, and your finished portrait personality and depth.

We hope to inspire you with new ideas and techniques to take away with you and apply to your own work.

You will be working from your chosen image, either from an iPad or you can use a photograph of at least 12cm x 12cm.  Most importantly, the animal’s head and eyes must be clear and in focus. Crop your image so that it is square.  The head of the animal should take up most of the frame. For good (free) reference images see http://www.pixabay.com. The sharper the reference image – the more amazing the painting!

What you will need to bring with you on the workshop day:

A colour photograph of your animal or an image on an ipad / tablet

A black and white and colour print out of your square cropped image as large as you can make it on an A4 piece of paper 

A selection of long handled brushes eg. ‘Graduate Daler Rowney All purpose Long Handled Brushes,’ from The Range, Amazon etc. 

A selection of artist quality oil paints, in primary colours red, blue, yellow and black and white, eg. ‘Daler Rowney Starter Set.’

An clean, empty screw lidded glass jar. 

A box to take your work home in.

Old clothing is recommended.

If you’re trying oils for the first time – starter boxes of oil paint and sets of brushes can be bought from The Range, Amazon, Hobby Craft etc.

Included on the day: 

Low odour thinners, rags, aprons etc. 

20cm x 20cm primed canvas and any other materials not specified for students to bring.

Detailed demonstrations 

Delicious cake!  Along with a selection of tea, freshly brewed coffee and biscuits. If you have any specific dietary requirements or allergies, please feel free to bring along your own provisions/milk alternatives etc.

And of course you take your wonderful portrait from the day home with you.

Terms – Fee is payable on booking. If, having booked, you can no longer attend, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer you to another workshop. 

However, you may nominate someone else to attend the workshop or class in your place by notifying us hello@mollyandmaud.com or using the contact page on the Molly and Maud website. 

We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. 

We will only cancel due to insufficient places sold and you will be refunded the full amount paid.
